The West End Festival Vintage Bus Service brings historic restored buses and coaches to life by allowing you to travel on board them “on service”. Experience the atmosphere of bygone travel bringing heritage alive!
As part of Glasgow’s West End Festival, the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust (GVVT) in conjunction with Glasgow Life again brings you the opportunity to ride on restored vintage buses from the GVVT’s collections, dating from the1950s to the 1980s. These will run on a frequent service all around the West End allowing you to experience bus travel as it was in bygone times.
The bus service is FREE.
A circular route is followed, serving Riverside Museum, Byres Road, Botanic Gardens (main gate), Anniesland Cross, Broomhill, Byres Road and back to Riverside, and runs frequently in both directions.
You can get on and off the route at all bus stops on the route – so you start your journey at any point; take the full circle or break your journey at any point and then continue on a different bus.
We hope to also provide a display of other interesting buses and a few commercials at the Riverside museum forecourt.
A few buses will start at Killermont Street outside Buchanan Bus Station at the start of the day and return there at the end of the event.
With thanks to Glasgow Life for supporting the event.
We hope you enjoy travelling on these historic vehicles.
EXTRA BUSES -OPEN TOPPER
Extra buses will run between Riverside and Botanic Gardens at busy times, possibly using an open topper (weather permitting).
Main service runs approx. 1130 to approx. 1700.
Due to unforeseen resurfacing works in the vicinity of Castlebank St/Beith St gyratory at Partick, the route and timetable for this Sunday's WEF bus service has had to be amended.
At the start of their journeys, services will be routed via the Clydeside Expressway, then Finnieston St, Argyle St, Radnor St, Kelvin Way, University Ave, then revert to previously planned route, which to recap, is either clockwise or anticlockwise as follows :-
Clockwise via Highburgh Rd, Clarence Dr, Crow Rd, Great Western Rd, Queen Margaret Drive, Botanic Gdns, Byres Rd, Beith St, Castlebank St to Riverside Museum, OR
Anti-clockwise, via Byres Rd, Queen Margaret Dr, Botanic Gdns, Great Western Rd, Crow Rd, Clarence Dr, Highburgh Rd, Byres Rd, Beith St, Castlebank St to Riverside Museum
As described above, the route back to the Riverside Museum is unaffected, it is only the outward journey which is affected.
Most journeys’ departure times will be advanced by 5 minutes in order to allow extra time for the extended route length. The last few journeys in each direction will run at their previously advertised times in order that nobody is left behind.
We look forward to you travelling with us!
