An Island, An Astronomical Object

Exhibition An Island, An Astronomical Object, brings together new work by Newcastle based artist Ross Hamilton Frew.

An Island, An Astronomical Object

About An Island, An Astronomical Object

At the heart of the exhibition lies an interest in the seminal utopian science fiction novel ‘The Dispossessed’ by Ursula K Le Guin, and Frew’s ensuing search for real-life examples of the worlds described therein. This led to a focus on the mid-Atlantic, British Overseas Territory, Ascension Island, as well as the imagery found on NASA’s outer planets data search tool (OPUS).

Taking these strong visual cues, Frew has produced a series of ceramic, collage and sculptural works for the Studio Pavilion.

Exhibition runs 11 March - 9 April 2018
