Glasgow Jazz Festival
Glasgow Jazz Festival returns in June bringing its annual supply of world-class musicians and upcoming superstars to the city!
About Glasgow Jazz Festival
Sorry, but this event has been and gone!
From 20th – 24th June, Glasgow Jazz Festival brings its annual supply of world class musicians and upcoming superstars to the city’s already vibrant jazz scene. Glasgow will be transformed with a wealth of home-grown and international jazz talent.
The Glasgow International Jazz Festival was founded in 1987, when Glasgow was bidding to become the European City of Culture for 1990. The City had studied the competition and worked out that all major cities in Europe had a jazz festival. If they had one, then so should Glasgow.
From the very beginning, the Glasgow International Jazz Festival brought some of the biggest names of jazz to the City – 1987’s programme included singer Sarah Vaughan, Chick Corea, Taj Mahal, Benny Carter and Carol Kidd. Other top headliners include Miles Davis (during the European City of Culture year 1990), Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Guy, Michael Brecker and Tony Bennett.
This year's headline acts have been announced as Mr Jukes, The Georgie Fame Family Trio and Orchestre Poly-Rythmo who will all play the iconic Old Fruitmarket, with more to be announced in April!
While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Glasgow Jazz Festival are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
