Nevis Ensemble will embark on its inaugural tour between 31 July and 13 August 2018, taking in 70 performances in an intense fortnight of music for Festival 2018, the cultural programme of the Glasgow 2018 European Championships. As well as Glasgow, the orchestra shall give performances in Argyll and Bute, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Lothian, Edinburgh City, Highland, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, Scottish Border, South Ayrshire, West Dunbartonshire, and West Lothian.
Conducted by Holly Mathieson and Jon Hargreaves, the programme shall include a brand new commission by Royal Conservatoire of Scotland composer, Matthew Grouse.
Other repertoire shall include excerpts from Stravinsky’s Firebird and Wagner’s Die Walküre, Bartók’s Romanian Dances, Sibelius’ Waltz Triste, Judith Weir’s Still, Glowing and Neil Smith’s Cyched, as well as pop and jazz arrangements, some rip-roaring ceilidh music, and perhaps even a bit of Proclaimers as well.
Come and join us at one or more of our performances, and enjoy what promises to be an amazing fortnight of music-making across Scotland.
This tour is supported generously by Festival 2018, Creative Scotland and the Hugh Fraser Foundation.
