We are delighted to welcome Pleat & Bobbin to No.22. Pleat & Bobbin is infact the lovely Martha Welland, a professional seamtress and historical costumer who works on a number of cinematic and tv productions including Outlander.
Martha's passion is to teach us all about learning classic sewing techniques, to slow us down to enjoy sewing and be creative.
Over a three hour session (don't worry there will be tea and biscuits!) Martha will look at a variety of hand stitching techniques. You will learn:
How to use a thimble, and a few basics about hand stitching securley using wax, when to double thread, sewing quickly and avoiding tangles.
Sewing on fastenings beautifully and sec urely with no messy threads at the back!
Invisible slip stitching, for collars, cuffs, linings, wastbands and patchwork.
Cross stitch/heringbone stitch used for hems, and holding down facings and linings.
Swing catches and hand worked button and belt loops.
Hand pricked zippers for fancy garments made out of heavier fabrics - also can be used for quilting, hand stitching facings
Those who are super speedy can learn how to reinforce/mend a button hole or eyelet hole.
Martha will also lend a hand to those of you who want to talk through individual sewing projects.
If you want to take your stitching to the next level then this is the course for you. At the end of the session you will have a collection of sample stitching to take home and use as reference material for your future projects.
