The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra presents an afternoon of Tchaikovsky and Rossini at City Halls on Thursday 1st November!
About Afternoon Performance: Tchaikovsky and Rossini with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
Sorry, but this event has been and gone!
“Pathétique” translates as “full of emotion” and even Tchaikovsky never wrote anything more powerful, more melodious or more heartbreakingly sincere than the Sixth, an uninhibited musical autobiography. Equally grand in passion are a series of operatic showstoppers from the operas of Rossini, who died 150 years ago, especially when performed by Christine Rice – hailed by critics for her “flashes of vocal fire”. It’s prosecco for the ears.
Overture: The Thieving Magpie
‘Una Voce poco fa’ – from The Barber of Seville
‘La pace mia smarrita’ – from Moses in Egypt
‘Non piu Mesta’ – from Cinderella
Overture: The Silken Ladder
Symphony No.6 ‘Pathétique’
Christine Rice mezzo-soprano
