Fisherman’s Friends and Madison Violet

Celtic Connections 2019: Fisherman's Friends return to the festival with a new album, 2018's Sole Mates, simply self-styled as “foot-stomping, saucy, bawdy songs of the sea”!

Fisherman’s Friends and Madison Violet

About Fisherman’s Friends and Madison Violet

Nearly a decade after Radio 2’s Johnny Walker came across their weekly sea-shanty singing sessions, in the Cornish village of Port Isaac, the Fisherman’s Friends’ unique ascent to stardom – after Walker’s tip-off led to a £1 million record deal - has now reached the silver screen, with December’s release of the eponymous British film comedy. Its red-carpet première is just the latest unlikely highlight of the group’s latter-day career, in addition to playing stages from Glastonbury to the Proms, as the first traditional folk act to make the album charts’ Top Ten. They return to Celtic Connections with a new album, 2018’s Sole Mates, simply self-styled as “foot-stomping, saucy, bawdy songs of the sea”.

With 2019 marking 20 years since their first serendipitous meeting, Canadian duo Madison Violet, comprising singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac, have won a wide international fanbase with their powerhouse harmonies and gutsy yet lyrical mix of folk, pop, rock and Americana.

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Fisherman’s Friends and Madison Violet are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
