Orkney quartet Fara only formed in 2014, but its members have been pals since childhood, resulting in a depth of affinity and attunement that resounds gloriously through 2018’s second album, Times From Times Fall. Interspersing fresh contributions to their rich native fiddle tradition with new settings of Orcadian poetry, its all-original tunes and radiantly harmonised songs highlight Fara’s sparkling synergy between time-honoured roots and contemporary sophistication.
Tannara are another arresting Scottish four-piece, here launching their own sophomore release, Strands, also entirely self-penned. Combining fiddle, harp, accordion, piano, acoustic/electric guitars and compelling vocals in boldly muscular, artfully layered arrangements, they’re joined tonight by special guests Mattie Foulds and Rachel Newton.
