Women, War and the West End

This free exhibition draws attention to an under-researched area of women's role in the West End during and after WW1 in areas such as sport, the workplace and in their own homes.

This free exhibition celebrates the female business owners, nurses and medics, designers, and other strong-willed women of Glasgow’s West End who kept the country running and were active in the war effort, both at home and abroad.

The exhibition brought together a range of researchers and volunteers from various heritage organisations including Arlington Baths and the National Trust for Scotland as well as educational institutions including the University of Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian University and the Glasgow School of Art.

The Project is generously funded by the Heritage Lottery Funded project. It aims to provide a platform in which the community, and people further afield, of Glasgow’s West End can engage, explore, learn and understand the roles in which women were instrumental during and after World War One (WW1).

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Women, War and the West End are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
