Make Way For Tomorrow - Special Screening

About Make Way For Tomorrow - Special Screening

In Leo McCarey’s ‘Make Way For Tomorrow’, retired married couple Barkley (Victor Moore) and Lucy (Beulah Bondi) lose their home to foreclosure after struggling through the Great Depression. Their five grown-up children have their own problems and concerns and can board one of their parents each, not both. Before they are forced to split up, the couple take one last outing together as they ponder their future.

Incredibly moving, yet also alive with humour and warmth, ‘Make Way For Tomorrow’ is regarded as one of the greatest American movies ever made and, possibly, the finest film concerning family and aging. Neglected and under-seen since its release in 1937, in 2010 it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.”

Presented with an introduction by Colin Edwards.

“One of the great unsung American masterpieces.” – Criterion Collection.

“It was as though an arrow had struck me and stayed vibrating in my heart.” – Bertrand Tavernier.

“Beautiful and heartbreaking” – Roger Ebert.
