About Pirates and Smugglers Weekend
Sorry, but this event has been and gone!
Culzean Castle is calling on all little pirates to jump on board Culzean’s Pirate Academy on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September for a weekend of swashbuckling fun and challenges.
Hosted by conservation charity, the National Trust for Scotland, who care for and operate Culzean Castle, the Pirates and Smugglers weekend offers an exciting opportunity to attend pirate school, complete with walk the plank and pin the patch on the pirate challenges. The castle’s grounds will also become a smugglers wonderland, with treasure map making and digs for precious bounty.
There will also be a chance to meet the most famous pirate of all; Captain Jack Sparrow, who will be giving his approval to any budding pirates dressed for the occasion. There will be prizes on the day for the best dressed – so grab your eyepatch!
A storytelling will uncover Culzean Castle’s smuggling history, which stretches all the way back to 1747 when smugglers would transport goods through the network of caves beneath the castle. After nightfall, port, claret, rum and tea were all smuggled in from the Isle of Man and sold locally in a highly profitable trade. Smuggled treasure can still be found within the mysterious shadow of the castle.
While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Pirates and Smugglers Weekend are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
