About Gemma Collins
Romford-born Gemma Clare Collins is also known by the nickname “The GC”. She was first seen on TV in Snobs at the age of 18.
In 2011 Collins rose to prominence as a cast member on The Only Way Is Essex, a soap opera-meets-reality TV show. Since her first appearance selling used cars, her storylines have included everything from visiting psychics, struggling with her weight and confronting fertility obstacles to opening a clothes boutique and navigating her dramatic on-off relationship with James “Arg” Argent. Collins was on TOWIE for the better part of decade, including a special one-off episode, All Back To Essex, that re-united fans’ favourite faces.
After a few series, she wrote her autobiography Basically… My Life As A Real Essex Girl and it became a bestseller upon its first week of release in 2013.
Collins also took part in other reality TV shows including 2014’s driving competition Splash! and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, where she refused to jump out of a plane. In 2016 she was the seventh housemate to be evicted from Celebrity Big Brother and in 2017, after presenting the BBC Radio 1 Teen Award for Best TV Show to Love Island, she fell through an opening in the stage that was caught on a video a clip and went viral. She took on Celebs Go Dating and Celebrity MasterChef in 2018.
In 2019 Collins appeared in the 11th series of Dancing On Ice and in The Tearaways’ Sweet Sounds Of Summer video. That year she also launched her own reality television show Gemma Collins: Diva, which spawned Gemma Collins: Diva Forever and Gemma Collins: Diva Forever & Ever. Plus she began hosting a pair of no-holds-barred podcasts on BBC Sounds entitled The Gemma Collins Podcast and The Gemma Collins Love Lounge.
Known for her diva-like behaviour, being all about drama and never afraid to speak her mind, Collins announced a series of live stage performances across the UK for October 2021.
