The event will be the first elite-level international track cycling event to be held at the velodrome since December 2019 and will bring together the best riders in the world as the Great Britain Cycling Team fine-tune their preparations for a host of premier track cycling events, including the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships – which will also take place in Glasgow and across Scotland.
Scottish rider Katie Archibald, who won a world title at the UCI Track Cycling World Championship in Roubaix, France in October 2021 to add to her Olympic gold and silver medals in the Madison and team pursuit, believes that the competition will give her home crowd a glimpse into the future of the Great Britain Cycling Team. "The work towards Paris has already started for the whole team and next year’s Nations Cup will be an early marker to put some strong performances in and see where we’re at, " she said. "Competing at home is always a bonus, and I know the crowd will enjoy it."
British Cycling’s chief executive, Brian Facer, said of the announcement: "We are extremely pleased to be able to confirm that Glasgow will stage the first round of the 2022 Tissot UCI Track Nations Cup. Glasgow has a proud history of staging major international track events, and with many of the sport’s established names set to return to competition following a break after Tokyo, this is sure to make for a fascinating nations’ cup series, and we’re delighted that British fans will get the chance to see the action first-hand."
British Cycling members will be offered priority access to tickets from Thursday 28 October before they go on general sale on Thursday 11 November 2021.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
