As Collectif Coin, Maxime Houot presents installations and performances, combining experimental music with innovative lighting effects. In MA a vast apparatus hangs spider-like over the darkened stage; as Houot’s rhythmic electronic music bubbles and ticks, powerful lights on each dangling limb come alive, criss-crossing in a dazzling choreography of beams, sometimes duelling, sometimes dancing playfully, at other times working singly or together to produce stunning mathematical patterns, from simply spinning cones to intricate webs of light.
Long rows of mirrored screens hang in a darkened space, like portals to another dimension, in the UK premiere of this new audiovisual work by Alex Augier and Heather Lander. As Augier’s music, played live, washes through the space, first soothingly then growing danceably martial and propulsive, Lander’s pseudo-holographic patterns respond by forming kaleidoscopically reflective patterns, or skirmishing across the smart-film screens in squares of contrasting colour and shards of brilliant light.
