What will happen during the workshop?
You will be guided through planning a personal design which you will then bring to life using the screen printing process with dyes: playing with texture, colour and shape. Unlike with screen printing inks, dyes enable you to print on silk, wool and linen and retain their undyed surface texture and drape, as the dyes are absorbed by the fibres instead of sitting on top as they do with pigments and extenders.
After the workshop is finished our technician will steam the fabric for you, which will be ready to collect from our studio the following week. You will leave with a selection of samples using the process, including a small silk scarf.
What experience do I need?
As you are working with a specialised process basic knowledge of the screen printing process is preferable.
Equipment Provided:
Equipment and materials such as screens, squeegees, a range of dyes, paper, pens, cutting mats and knives are all included. You will be provided with material to sample on including one silk scarf, but you are welcome to bring additional pieces.
