What will happen during the workshop?
Our intermediate workshops are an ongoing series exploring different specialist techniques within textile printing.
During this two hour workshop you will learn the complete process of foil printing onto fabric, to create a unique effect for different applications within textiles. You will be shown how to print using our specialist glue binder and a layer of gold or silver foil. You will also be guided through exposing a screen using a design we will prepare for you. By playing with shapes, patterns and layers, you will leave the studio with 1.5 metres of printed cotton.
I have never done screen printing before, can I come?
As this is an intermediate workshop, some existing screen printing knowledge is required. It is suitable for anyone who has attended any of our beginner workshops and courses or has already attended an introduction session at our studio, as well as anyone who has previous textile screen printing experience.
What will I make?
During the first hour you will be shown how a screen is prepared using a photosensitive process, as well as the foiling process. You will learn how to correctly prepare your fabric and set up for printing. Once you are ready you will be able to use shapes and patterns to create an original and unique design for your 1.5 metres of fabric.
Equipment Provided:
Equipment and materials such as screens, squeegees, a range of ink colours, newsprint paper, cutting mats and knives are all included. We will provide 1.5 metres of plain cotton, but you are welcome to bring any additional fabric for printing along with you - natural fabrics give the best results.
