A new u3a in Glasgow’s south side looks promising. Dozens of people attended an open meeting in the Pollockshaws Road Glad Café last month to gauge local interest.
Now a follow-up event is planned for Thursday 5 January 2023. Anyone willing to help start a local u3a can visit The Bungo bar and kitchen, 17-21 Nithsdale Road, G41 2AL at 1.30pm.
u3a in Scotland trustee, Liz Ervine explained: “It’s been a positive and encouraging start. Each u3a is run by volunteers who freely give their time to offer a range of interest groups and social activities. This area has many individuals no longer in full time work.
Local people can see the benefits of peer-support learning and enjoying activities together. Being part of a community u3a lets people have fun as they share their skills, experience and what they know with others.
It’s a good way to keep your brain and social life active. We hope lots of people will come along and join in on 5 January to make their u3a work.”
Scotland has 54 community u3as across the country. For a modest yearly fee (around £25) members can learn a new skill or hobby or take up a new interest just for the fun of it. People can join in as many of their local u3a groups and activities as they have time for.
