New exhibition celebrates 100 years of drama, laughter, magic and song!
The Kirkintilloch Players have entertained thousands of people over the past 10 decades, winning various awards for adult and youth productions under the umbrella of the Scottish Community Drama Association.
From ‘The Steamie’ and ‘Treasure Island’ to ‘Blithe Spirit’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’, the club has an amazing history and a bright future.
The ‘Kirkintilloch Players Centenary Exhibition’ will be held at the Auld Kirk Museum, Kirkintilloch, from Wednesday 12 April until 18 May 2023 – showcasing a range of photographs, costumes, props and artefacts. Admission is free.
The official opening takes place on Saturday 15 April at 2.30pm.
Jim Neill – Chair of East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust, which operates the Auld Kirk – said: “We're delighted to be hosting this fantastic exhibition celebrating 100 years of the wonderful Kirkintilloch Players – one of the oldest, if not the oldest, amateur drama clubs in Scotland.
“It's a chance to relive some of the highlights from the club's rich history and the theatrical magic staged by its performers and creative talents over the years.”
The Kirkintilloch Players usually perform at The Turret Theatre, housed on the ground floor of an Edwardian tenement at Eastside, Kirkintilloch. The venue is sometimes referred to as the 'TARDIS' as – when people first step through its door – it looks much bigger inside than it appears outside!
The club was officially founded in 1923, although it had been active in a small way for a few years prior.
