It's been ten years since the first meeting of the Scottish Macaroni Appreciation Club (SMAC) at Sloans and organisers are celebrating with SMAC's 10th Birthday Bash on 28th June!
About SMAC’s 10th Birthday Bash!
The idea for SMAC was conceived back in 2013 as a bit of fun by a team of mac and cheese fanatics working for Sloans and went on to become a sell-out monthly event attracting people from all over the world during their visits to Glasgow.
The event is based around pledging allegiance to macaroni, digging into 4 different mac dishes then voting for the Mac Daddy.
Some of the best-loved dishes over the years have included the Philly Cheese Steak Mac, Salt & Chilli Mac, Tex Mex Mac, Loaded Fries Mac and Sloans legendary macaroni – the OG mac that Sloans is famous for.
There’s a plot twist - the Mystery Mac – a secret macaroni that’s unveiled on the night and not always for the faint of heart – Unicorn Mac, Blackforest Mac, Frogs Legs Mac, Monster Munch Mac and Crème Egg Mac being some of the concoctions that have graced the menu in the event’s ten-year history.
Rachel Farmer, Event Manager at Sloans, said: “SMAC has been going now for over ten years, proof that the people of Glasgow are serious about their macaroni cheese and a real testament to its enduring appeal as the ultimate feel-good food.
“Not many events can claim a ten-year run and we can’t wait to celebrate – we’re hoping to see regulars returning back from the very first night of SMAC and hopefully loads of new folk discovering what it’s all about too.”
