Steven and Tim are professionally qualified stained glass artists with many years’ of teaching experience. They are both working stained glass artists, operating from the Glasgow Glass Studio; a collective of professional and hobby glass artists who cover a wide range of art glass techniques.
They run 10 week evening courses throughout the year; all courses are run with a maximum of six students ensuring that each student receives individual attention. Each student has use of a workbench with all the tools and equipment they will need while taking part in the course.
Project one: Traditional stained glass window hanging
For your first project you will make a traditional stained glass window hanging, you will have the choice of a number of different patterns to choose from. Each window hanging measures 15cm x 15cm or 20cm x 12cm approximately.
You will learn all the basic skills needed to make a stained glass window hanging such as:
• Selecting suitable glass.
• Soldering.
• Scoring and breaking glass to fit a pattern.
• Attaching support rings.
• Grinding glass.
• Cementing.
• Lead cutting.
• Finishing.
Project Two: Individual Project
Once you have completed your traditional lead window hangings you can then move on to your own individual projects. WE will work with you to select / plan and source materials for your individual piece, (please note that you will have to purchase the glass for your individual project).
The only constraint to you completing your project is time; it usually takes a student about ten hours to do the first project. This means that each student usually has about 15 hours in class to complete their individual project. We will help you plan out your project to ensure that it is finished in the time you have available.
What's included in the price?
The ten week evening course costs £150.00.
All materials for the first project such as glass, lead and solder are provided at no extra cost (please note that students will have to purchase their own glass for individual projects).
Please note:
• It is recommended that you bring reading glasses for close work.
• It is recommended that you wear sensible shoes (no open toed shoes) when attending the workshop.
• It is also recommended that you wear old clothes.
• This course involves working with lead, for safety reasons we recommend that pregnant women do not attend.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
