Shostakovich’s Eleventh Symphony is a pulse-raising experience that depicts events of the 1905 Russian Revolution with all the sweep and emotional impact of a film score. The BBC SSO is joined by students from the RCS and the Conservatoire’s Visiting Professor of Conducting for this roof-raising work. Before then RCS Leverhulme Conducting Fellow Emilie Godden directs Richard Watkins and the BBC SSO in Glière’s gleaming Horn Concerto, and the concert opens with a brand-new work by RCS composition student Mingdu Li, winner of the Walter & Dinah Wolfe Memorial Prize.
