Created by and for new parents and parents-to-be with care experience, in partnership with Care Visions, Early Years Scotland and Scottish Attachment in Action, with support from The Promise Scotland, The Village is a digital community where families can find information, access resources, and connect to others, including team members providing one-to-one advice.
Plans by the charity to expand The Village this year, supported by the KPMG Foundation and the Henry Duncan Foundation, now include free in-person events for the community, starting at Glasgow Science Centre on Thursday 28th September.
Moira Greentree, executive director at The Why Not? Trust, said: “It is wonderful to be welcoming Villagers to an in-person event for the first time and we are looking forward to further developing the different kinds of support and events on offer to our community.
“Parents with experience of care told us they often felt stigma and judgement when reaching out, so we worked together to create an environment in which we understand support and encouragement are helpful, stigma, blame or judgement are not.
“As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. This event is a fantastic opportunity for more parents with care experience to meet some of the team and each other, building their support networks in an open and welcoming place.”
The event at the Glasgow Science Centre on Thursday 28th September is free to members of The Village who have signed up in advance. Parents and parents-to-be with care experience can find out more and how to join as a Villager at whynottrust.org/the-village/.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
