Join the Scottish Opera Community Choir at Cottiers as they recreate the setting of the Mauchline pub Poosie Nansie's for an evening of song and merriment!
About Scottish Opera: The Jolly Beggars
Robert Burns’ and Henry Bishop’s The Jolly Beggars is conducted by Katy Lavinia Cooper and performed by the Chorus alongside professional soloists.
As a narrator guides you through this world of revellers, you will hear stories from a soldier, a tinker, a widow of a highland freebooter, a bard, and the irrepressible chorus of ‘vagrants’ that haunt Poosie Nansie’s. Written in 1785, ‘Love and Liberty: A Cantata’ – as The Jolly Beggars is also known – was never published during the poet’s lifetime, possibly for its irreverent content!
This performance is a chance to experience Burns’ rowdy masterpiece with music by Henry Bishop in the vivacious atmosphere it deserves.
