Spend a day with Indigo grower and dyer Elisabeth Viguie Culshaw in Glasgow and learn all about the Indigo plant, how to make an Indigo vat and dye/print some shibori.
Elisabeth Viguie Culshaw is a French born textile artist and natural dyer established in Glasgow in the 1990's, member of the guild of Weavers, Spinners and dyers she specialises in Indigo dyeing maintaining all year around a number of Indigo vats in her West end based studio. She teaches in person and online classes on natural dyeing and printing.
She started growing Japanese Indigo in Glasgow in 2021 during the pandemic and in 2022 she started The Indigo Plot project which involves growing Japanese Indigo in the grounds of The Glasgow Botanical garden as well as joining forces with 20 "at Home growers in Scotland". The aim is to share experiences and growing/dyeing tips.
During the workshop she will share with you how to set up an Indigo vat from Natural Indigo Pigments from Indian origins. She will share tips on how to maintain it and revive it. You will dye samples of recycled cotton/linen using Shibori folds and recycled household items to create beautiful patterns. You will get the opportunity to create a "large cushion size" piece to take home.
Finishing techniques will be demonstrated to make sure your own dyed pieces do not crock and vat management will be discussed.
P lease note all bookings are final and no refund will be available.
This workshop is perfect for beginners and is part of Elisabeth's sharing of "The Indigo plot project".
If you are interested by The Indigo Plot project and would like to grow Indigo at home you can join her online growing project: www.eventbrite.co.uk
