‘He is to Scottish Jazz what Robbie Burns was to Scottish Poetry’ (Bebop Spoken Here)
As twilight falls, the cloistered crypt takes on a dense and moody tone—creating a place of sanctuary. Sit back and let your mind wander along with flexuous melodies improvised by jazz legend Tommy Smith.
Tommy needs little introduction; as a star saxophonist and the dynamic leader of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, he is known worldwide for a decades-long career at the forefront of the Scottish jazz scene. His exclusive performance for GCF acoustically and physically weaves around the ancient stone columns of the lower church, presenting familiar themes with new perspectives, and encircling you with ardent, fluctuating sound.
Due to the layout of the vaulted crypt, some seats will have a restricted view of the performers. Please note the Lower Church is a multi-level space with uneven flooring—if you require assistance or cannot use stairs, please let us know in advance and we will ensure your access needs are supported.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
