From the swinging razzamataz of Broadway to the lilting folksongs of the Hebrides, Katherine Dienes-Williams offers something for everyone in this lunchtime concert. Suitable for all ages, her programme includes Iain Farrington’s hilariously honky Penguins, the glamour of 1930s Hollywood showgirls in a pair of toe-tapping numbers by Michael Thomson and wistful, meditative Scottish airs by Sir James MacMillan, Kenneth Leighton and George McPhee.
The first female Director of Music appointed to a UK cathedral, Katherine Dienes-Williams is based at Guildford Cathedral; she is also Chair of the Royal College of Organists, and performs concerts across the world. This is her first recital in Glasgow, where our 1879 pipe organ (one of the largest in Scotland) offers a fabulous range of colours and contrasts—an ideal instrument to bring such a dynamic programme to life in this spirited and vibrant concert!
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
