East Dunbartonshire’s Josefina Polson age 9 has designed an inspiring poster encouraging thrill-seekers to sign up to Carers Link’s biggest annual challenge - Zipslide the Clyde!!! – that is back on Friday 6 September 2024, a 1245ft long adrenalin-charged challenge not to be missed!!
Open to all dare devils from age 10 upwards, Zipsliders will launch off a 100ft high crane next to the stunning Glasgow Riverside Museum, raising much needed funds for Carers Link East Dunbartonshire.
Commenting on the design of her poster, young carer Josefina from Milngavie said: “I love art because it is fun, and I find it relaxing. I get to be creative and find inspiration. I researched photos of the Squinty Bridge, Glasgow and felt inspired to include it in my drawing for Carers Link’s Zipslide poster. The person in my drawing is a made up character called ‘Antony’. He loves adventure and he is not afraid of heights! I hope people will be inspired by ‘Antony’ and take part in the Zipslide. They will have chance to have fun, get outdoors and see some great sights! With Carers Link I get to meet other young carers and enjoy activities and a break from caring. I love Craft Daft on a Raft and really enjoyed the Limbo game. Thank you for helping us!”
For 20 years, Milngavie-based Carers Link has been dedicated in providing a range of crucial services, including information and one-to-one support, to practical advice and wellbeing groups for young and adult carers, who live or care in the East Dunbartonshire area. The charity has assisted over 6600 carers, including over 6000 adult carers and 564 young carers over the years.
Working closely with East Dunbartonshire schools, the charity also offers invaluable help to young carers aged from 8 to 25, with core services that include emotional support, wellbeing, information and advocacy, holiday breaks and activities.
Jennifer Roe, chief executive officer of Carers Link East Dunbartonshire finished: “Thanks to Josefina’s inspiring poster and bravery in taking part, am sure thrill-seekers will be encouraged to raise crucial funds for Carers Link! A huge thank you to all our Zipsliders that have signed up so far. Fundraising has a huge positive impact on our local unpaid carers who need our support and services more than ever. We hope that Zipsliders will be able to raise between £200-£300 each to enable us to cover our costs. We have 7 places left so don’t miss out!”
