Having recently played their first shows in over 2 years, a new record looms and live dates have been planned for ‘intimate’ venues - where better than Esquires to host these trailblazing experimental psychedelic garage rockers?
Formed in 2005 in Southend-on-Sea, The Horrors burst onto the scene with the visceral ‘Sheena is a Parasite’ single alongside a video directed by none other than Chris Cunnigham. The band’s debut album ‘Strange House’ was released in 2007 with the band then expanding their sound and embracing new influences for their second long-player ‘Primary Colours’ which was produced by Geoff (Portishead) Barrow and nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2009.
Three other albums (Skying, Luminous, V) followed alongside support tours with likes of The Sonics and Arctic Monkeys as the band continued to push sound boundaries, culminating in the incredible pulsating synth pop of ‘Something to Remember Me By’ which closes their majestic fifth album. In the seven years since then, just two EP’s (birthed in 2021) have been released and until their re-emergence at the recent Psych festivals an air of mystery surrounded their plans. As the opening line of ’Press Enter to Exit’ stated, “What does it tell you when you change into a stranger?” Come find out.
