Norman Willmore & Corrie Dick with Hannah Read

About Norman Willmore & Corrie Dick with Hannah Read

In a daring blend of old and new, Shetland Islands native Norman and Glasgow’s Corrie are reimagining traditional Shetland music with their latest project, Twa Double Doubles. This album dives into the rich musical heritage of the Shetland Islands.

Norman and Corrie bring a fresh perspective to these age-old melodies. The pair are immersed in the jazz and contemporary music scene, Corrie performing with Dinosaur and Jacob Collier, and Norman working with The Peatbog Faeries and Corto.Alto. Their set-up combines a drum kit, saxophone, and organ foot pedals with cutting-edge electronics, producing a vibrant sound that pays homage to the past while forging new paths.

To accompany the album will be the premier of a film by burgeoning Scottish film-maker Douglas Tyrrell-Bunge. Which not only documents the making of the album but also dramatizes some of the folklore from Shetland and also the stories of the melodies themselves.

Hannah Read is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist and composer who was recently described as “one of the finest singers of the day” (MOJO Magazine). Brought up in Edinburgh and now based in Northern California, her music is steeped deep in both sides of the Atlantic.

Equally at home improvising on fiddle, playing "utterly gripping" (Songlines) Appalachian old-time music or delivering finely wrought original songs, she is an artist that gets equal thrill touring as an International band leader, as well as a collaborative side-musician. Weaving between musical worlds Hannah has toured and performed with Grammy award winning Julien Baker (Boygenius) and Sarah Jarosz, bluegrass luminary Tony Trischka, BBC Folk Award-winning Songs of Separation, Mipso and more.

Alongside original songs, Hannah will perform The Fungi Sessions Vol. 1, her newly commissioned suite of fungi-inspired music along with projected mycelium visuals. She will be joined by Michael Starkey (banjo/guitar), Matt Carmichael (saxophone) and other special guests.
