We are delighted to bring the Illuminate Women’s Music concert series to Scotland this year! Illuminate has existed in the UK since 2018, with the aim to shine light on the work and creativity of women composers and performers.
The series will tour newly commissioned works by diverse Scottish composers, written for an incredible soprano Stephanie Lamprea and cellist Jessica Kerr. These compositions will explore Scottish folklore interpretations through innovative contemporary music angles. Historical and established works by women will be programmed alongside at various concerts, to give a rich context to the strong but neglected tradition of women’s music.
The day before our Glasgow concert we'll be running an open workshop where attendees will see newly commissioned works explored between performers, and hear the composers speak about their works. Afterwards, at 3:30-4:30, there will be a live artist talk and Q&A facilitated by Emily Doolittle. There will be an opportunity to meet all the composers and ask questions in a public discussion or on an individual basis. The workshop will run from 1pm-3pm and the talk and Q&A will run from 3:30pm-4:30pm in person at the Scottish Music Centre, an accessible venue. The series are organised by Angela Elizabeth Slater (Illuminate Founder and Director) and Rūta Vitkauskaitė (Illuminate Scotland Director), and funded by Creative Scotland, Marchus Trust and Vaughan Williams Foundation.
