This short course for people age 16+ will introduce students to the backstage world of the theatre wardrobe. Working in our wardrobe workshop, under the guidance of a Production Arts and Design Lecturer, you will get hands-on experience in producing a small costume item and gain an introductory understanding of these manufacturing methods.
You will develop a theoretical understanding of the wardrobe department’s function in the translation of costume design to realised performance.
Over the weekend, students will engage in a simple practical exercise, designed to represent a condensed version of the costuming process.
You will have the opportunity to:
Work with staff from the BA Production Arts and Design course
Get introduced to the tools and techniques involved in working in a wardrobe department
Develop an understanding of the relationship between the costume maker and designer
Work practically with the facilities used by the BA Production Arts and Design degree students at the Royal Conservatoire
By the end of this short course, you will have gained an understanding of the work that goes on backstage in the wardrobe department from design to performance and gain an insight into studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. You will have learnt something of the important techniques for the costuming process and you will have created a small piece of costume to take with you.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
