The first Manifesto of Bliss of 2025 is also the inaugural event at our new spiritual home, McChuills of Glasgow, with a bill that features two artists who are very much at the heart of what we do, Tony Morris and Vashti Bunyan, who we are presenting in collaboration with our friends at White Rabbit Books.
Serious MoB heads will know Tony Morris already. His set at the MoB, back last year when we were based at The Poetry Club, was one of the most confoundingly beautiful performances of the year. Tony combines a dark mutant cabaret aesthetic with wonked dance music and a feel for ruptured song forms that is the equal of Captain Beefheart, Wild Man Fischer and Wild Billy Childish. To best reflect the mood, the MoB will be decked out like an old school cabaret night, with table seating and candles.
Folk wunderkind Vashti Bunyan celebrates her 80th birthday on March 2nd and to celebrate one of the most remarkable lives lived on the fringes of the counterculture Vashti will be in conversation about her mind-blowing memoir, Wayward (published by White Rabbit in 2023) and her life in music with author David Keenan. She will also be signing books as well as the special 20th anniversary edition of her classic 2005 album Lookaftering.
On the decks MoB in-house DJs Brother Joseph and David Keenan will be conjuring the High Baptismal Flow w/a very special deep-psych-focussed vinyl-only DJ set while Steven Gribbin brings the visuals ala the Exploding Plastic Inevitable. Truly, a night of legends.
