In Cahootz is a Glasgow-based community arts charity that provides creative opportunities for marginalised communities. Its activities promote connection, reduce isolation, increase confidence and offer a space for inclusion alongside an appreciation of the arts and the power of making and expressing.
Glasgow-based playwright and actor Linda Duncan McLaughlin writes her first production for In Cahootz – The People’s Place.
The story is based around a group of five PALS (KRIS, ALEX, JO-JO, RAB and DEE) who are trying to help a sixth member (STEVO) who has come back to Glasgow to try to right a wrong from 20 years ago. The story starts when the PALS decide to mount their own version of a Glasgow tour for a group of visitors (the audience) but veers off-track when Stevo joins them secretly at an old haunt of theirs (the Necropolis) and asks for their help.
Linda Duncan McLaughlin is no stranger to In Cahootz, having tutored the company’s creative writing workshops as part of its creative programme.
This is In Cahootz Creative Citizens' 6th Theatre production.
The play is created by sourcing material from a collaboration between the project participants and drama-based consultation workshops within Glasgow’s Recovery Community. The material collected is then given to the playwright.
These workshops explored what the city of Glasgow means to them, their relationships with the city and the landmarks and parts of the city that stand out the most. This is particularly poignant as it coincides with the city celebrating Glasgow 850.
