One of Scotland's most exciting new tenor saxophone stars, Matthew Kilner launches his debut album The Space In Between.
Matthew Kilner Quartet:
Matthew Kilner - Tenor Saxophone
Paul Harrison - Piano
Ali Watson - Double Bass
Alyn Cosker - Drums
The Matthew Kilner Quartet is a brand-new ensemble that features Alyn Cosker, Paul Harrison, and Ali Watson. With each band member receiving critical acclaim for their own projects, the synergy from all four musicians coming together demonstrates cutting-edge improvisation and interplay.
The band performs all original music that draws on inspiration from Matthew's hometown of Aberdeen in the North-East of Scotland, which is home to stunning coastal environments, rich cultures and an eclectic mix of locals.
The music is firmly in the jazz tradition with strong influences being taken from both the American modal jazz movement and European folk-like contemporary jazz, as championed by such musicians as Jan Garbarek and Jakob Bro.
Matthew recently recorded his debut album "The Space In Between" with financial backing from Creative Scotland, which is set to be released on the 7th of March 2025.
