Smells evoke powerful emotions and memories, yet we often struggle to describe them precisely. Long dismissed as a 'lesser sense,' smell plays a crucial role in shaping our perception of the world—yet our vocabulary remains limited.
Drawing on materials from Not To Be Sniffed At: An Aromatic History of Sauchiehall Street, this interactive event explores the intricate relationship between scent, culture, and perception. Led by Ingrid Shearer of Glasgow Building Preservation Trust.
Free event. Booking is encouraged to help manage numbers, but limited drop-in tickets will be available. If you can no longer attend, please let us know—we’d greatly appreciate it!
This event is apart of an events programme, which will run alongside an immersive exhibition "Not to be Sniffed At - an Aromatic History of Sauchiehall Street". The exhibition invites visitors to experience the street's past through their sense of smell.
Running from April 19 to May 1, this unique collaboration between Glasgow Building Preservation Trust and perfumer Clara Weale explores the evocative power of scent in shaping memory and place.
This work is a part of the exploration phase programme for Sauchiehall Street: Culture and Heritage District, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, in partnership with Glasgow City Council.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
