Glasgow Trades Union Council present May Day 2025 programme launch event.

Glasgow 850 - Through Our Labour This City Was Built

And don't you forget it.

But that's the danger and, we need to keep telling our stories when the institutions around us that are paid for by public money have applied a very corporate sheen to Glasgow's 850 celebrations.

So, within the Glasgow TUC 2025 May Day programme or via a commitment to events throughout the rest of 2025, it is our intention to tell the stories of the workers: via disputes that changed our city and the lessons and themes our movement has taken from them.

Join us in Lynch's on the 24th April to hear some of the lesser known stories that we believe have played a major role in establishing Glasgow Trades Council and the history that better known victories were built on that feature in the programme or will feature later in the year.

As well as the changing face of the industrial worker from the predominantly male skilled tradesman into the increasingly visible role of women and younger workers.

If our stories are not included in the official Glasgow 850 programme, then it is the responsibility of the working class to organise it and get working class artists along.

So, on the night we'll hear from a range of trade union speakers and we're very pleased to be joined by:

Victoria McNulty - Writer and Performer from the East End of Glasgow

Eddie Maguire & Colin Buchanan - Musical Accompaniment
