The hugely talented performer Marti Pellow leads the cast in the role of the evil sorcerer Abanazar. Achieving some of the UK’s biggest number-one singles, Marti has regularly featured in the UK charts throughout his career, both as a solo artist and as the frontman to Wet Wet Wet. The BRIT and Ivor Novello award-winning artist has released over twenty studio albums, has enjoyed over 25 hit singles and continues to sell out concert and arena tours across the UK.
In addition to his music, Marti has also starred in numerous high-profile theatre productions in the West End and on Broadway, including Chicago, Blood Brothers and recently the sold-out, award-winning musical Evita for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the What’s On Stage Awards. He’s also had the privilege to work alongside Tim Rice in his concert film of Chess, and with Jeff Wayne in the international arena tour of War of The Worlds.
Marti has also starred in many record-breaking theatre tours, including The Witches of Eastwick, Blood Brothers and Jekyll & Hyde. Earlier this year Marti and Wet Wet Wet embarked on a 17-date sell out UK tour to coincide with the 20th anniversary of their Number 1 album Picture This, and last Christmas he made his pantomime debut for Qdos Entertainment in the record-breaking Birmingham Hippodrome production of Aladdin.
Marti says: “This production of Aladdin is incredible, staged by an award-winning production team working at the top of their game, with some of the most exciting and entertaining staging I’ve ever worked with - I can’t wait to bring it to Glasgow.”
As previously announced, Marti will be joined by Glasgow panto favourite Johnny Mac as Wishee Washee. No stranger to pantomime, Johnny has been making Scotland laugh every Christmas for over 15 years, and this year will be no exception as he takes to the stage in Glasgow’s biggest panto.
Aladdin is staged by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s largest pantomime producer, and the company behind the SECC’s previous record-breaking pantomime productions. The show’s executive producer is Michael Harrison, recent winner of an Olivier award for his West End production Gypsy, and managing director of Qdos Entertainment’s pantomime division.
Michael says “We are delighted that Marti will star in Glasgow’s biggest pantomime in another top-drawer Christmas showed packed with comedy, supplied by the unique Johnny Mac, amazing costumes and sets and unmissable special effects. This is pantomime at its best!”.
Debbie McWilliams, Head of Live Entertainment Sales & Ticketing at the SECC said:
“Marti is no stranger to the SECC and it is fantastic that he will be returning to us this year to lead the cast in our biggest festive panto. We can’t wait to welcome him, Johnny Mac and the rest of the cast for Aladdin in December”
