The Women's Football World Cup proved to be the highlight in a summer of sport, now it's the turn of female golfers to step into the spotlight as the biggest show in women's golf arrives in Scotland!

This September the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles will provide a stunning backdrop as the world’s greatest female players take part in the 2019 Solheim Cup.
It’s Europe versus the USA and the stage is set for an intense contest as the ‘home’ team look to halt the American’s bid for a third successive win in the competition.
This year’s competition will be one of the most accessible to date for spectators of all ages and abilities and the organisers have also made it as affordable as possible, with ticket prices starting from £25 for adults for the Opening Ceremony and children under-16 going free across the entire event.
The week-long celebration of golf, running between September 9-15, will include practise days and a spectacular opening ceremony – headlined by Scottish rock icons Texas.
In terms of the action, the best female players from Europe and the USA face each other in a match play format. This is effectively the women’s ‘Ryder Cup’, following the same rules and carrying the same intensity and drama across a three-day run of head-to-head matches.
The competition is played every two years, on alternate years to the Ryder Cup. Europe have won the competition five times in its history, the USA 10.
The European team should take confidence from one good omen ahead of this year’s event at Gleneagles.
The Solheim was last held here in 2000 at Loch Lomond and a European team captained by Scottish golfing legend Dale Reid took the trophy, 14 ½ - 11 ½. The only other Scottish date in the tournament’s history was the second competition, in 1992 at Dalmahoy. And Europe won that one as well (11 ½ - 6 ½) with England’s Mickey Walker captain.
