The leading Glasgow shopping centre has given £5,000 to the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, as well as to the Simon Community and also the RetailTRUST.
The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice will use the funds to support their community work with the Salvation Army to help feed families who are going without food during the COVID-19 crisis. Soup and food are being prepared in the hospice kitchen for the Salvation Army to distribute to those in need.
The donation of £5000 to the Simon Community will help the local community who are working to support the homeless and rough sleeping initiative in Glasgow.
The centre has also donated £5,000 to support the RetailTRUST’s fundraising campaign, ‘CaRe 20 – Caring for Retail during COVID-19’, The initiative aims to raise £10 million to provide the financial, emotional, physical and vocational support that will be needed by retail workers and their families who may be ineligible for government support during the health emergency.
Anne Ledgerwood, general manager of St. Enoch Centre, said: “This is a challenging time for everyone and we wanted to show our support to both local organisations who are carrying out vital work as well as those who have been impacted within the retail sector.”
Rhona Ballie, Chief Executive of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, said: “We are so grateful to St. Enoch Centre for choosing to donate to our community food appeal. During this lockdown period, we became aware that families and individuals within our local communities did not have enough to feed themselves. As a caring and compassionate charity we felt compelled to take action.
“However, it has only been through the generosity of our staff, our Board and our volunteers along with our supporters such as this generous donation from St. Enoch Centre that we are able to buy the food to for these families. Thanks to this generosity, we have been able to buy and prepare food and soup in the hospice kitchen for The Salvation Army to distribute to families and people in our community.”
George Provan, Head of Services, Simon Community Scotland, said: “Simon Community Scotland would like to thank St. Enoch Centre for the kind donation which will go a long way in helping us support the most vulnerable people who find themself homeless in these particularly difficult times with Covid-19 and are unable to self-isolate.
“The money will help us buy food, clothing, essentials and will support us to help people off the streets and into safe accommodation.”
