Scotland on Tour returns to Lenzie this January with Saturday Night at the Movies
As part of Scotland on Tour the hugely popular Aaron Hawthorn is set to delight crowds with his Saturday Night at the Movies at St Cyprian's Church in Lenzie on Saturday 28th January!

After starting his career as an organist in Motherwell Cathedral, Aaron Hawthorn went on to be the principal organist at St Bride’s Roman Catholic Church, Cambuslang for five years. Now a freelance musician based in Lanarkshire, Aaron frequently performs recitals, concerts and silent film accompaniments across the UK, mainland Europe and the USA.
It was on a family trip to Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom in his early teens that Andrew discovered his passion for cinema organs. Since then, he has been working to raise awareness of the instrument, as well as silent film, as he believes both are largely underappreciated and misrepresented art forms, in danger of complete elimination from art culture.
On the whole, Aaron prefers to work as an improvisational artist, taking inspiration from what he sees on screen and converting the action into live music and sounds. Saturday Night at the Movies at St Cyprian’s Church will see Aaron improvise an impressive accompaniment to Buster Keaton’s epic silent film from 1926, The General.
Aaron Hawthorn said: “It is a great honour to be involved in Scotland on Tour, an initiative which is successfully bringing music of all genres and styles back to the country after a couple of tough years for the arts industry.
“As an organist who takes a particular interest in cinema organs, I am passionate about silent films, and their distinctive quality. It is amazing how much a movie with no dialogue can move the watcher, all with the help of a little music! I hope to provide an evening of rich, cultural entertainment for the people of Lenzie this coming January, and to highlight the unique beauty of both the silent film and the organ.”
Scotland on Tour will take place over a period of 12 months between April 2022 and 2023.

We are delighted that Aaron Hawthorne will be providing live accompaniment to a silent movie starring Buster Keaton. It’s going to be a really great, shared experience. Our thanks to Scotland on Tour for assisting both venues and artists in putting on this series of concerts.”
Scotland on Tour supports the creation of hundreds of concerts and performances at much-loved arts centres, town halls and community venues across Scotland. More than 120 artists are set to perform at more than 100 venues across the country as part of the initiative.
The project, which has been created and managed by Active Events, was made possible by £750,000 of Scottish Government backing and will focus on increasing the number of opportunities to showcase and enjoy live music, while bringing exciting acts to the doorstep of city, towns, villages and rural communities.
The year-long Scotland on Tour bill includes both emerging and established artists with genre-spanning acts appearing across the breadth and width of the country, with rock, pop, jazz, classical, folk, trad and acoustic genres all being showcased.
