A section of Glasgow Green has been transformed by the Glasgow Life UCI Cycling World Championships team into a 'cool' world-class competition space for three of the four BMX disciplines; BMX Freestyle Park, BMX Freestyle Flatland, Trials.
BMX Freestyle Park will have the riders fly superhero-high off ramps, ride on walls and flip the script of what’s possible on a bike every time they ride. Each rider has two 60 second rounds to combine as many tricks as possible and wow the judges and the crowd at Glasgow Green in Glasgow. This is the Olympic discipline of BMX Freestyle.
DATES: 05 - 07 August 2023
Check for final tickets remaining.
BMX Freestyle Flatland is a freestyle BMX riding style performed on smooth flat surfaces that does not include any ramps, jumps, or grind rails. It is a mesmerising display that can be described as parkour combined with breakdancing… on a bike. Riders have nothing but their bike and the blank canvas of a smooth surface to style and spin their way to a mesmerising medal-worthy routine that you must see to believe.
DATES: 08 - 10 August 2023
Non-ticketed event free to attend.
BMX Trials will see riders hop, hook and wheel jump their way up, down and over purpose-built obstacles designed to test the extremes of bicycle-based agility and technical skill. Riders must follow the arrows, stay within the line and keep their feet on the pedals! Riders have two minutes per section to be as precise as possible as they overcome set obstacles.
DATES: 09 - 12 August 2023
Non-ticketed event free to attend.
Bailie Annette Christie, Chair of Glasgow Life said: “It is fantastic to see Glasgow Green transformed into such an exciting venue for the BMX competitions which get underway tomorrow along with the Road Races as part of a huge weekend of sporting action in the city.
“The GO LIVE! programme of free cultural and community participation events at the official fan zone in George Square and across the city, including a Community Day at Tollcrosss International Swimming Centre, will ensure there are ways for everyone, whether sports fans or not, to get involved, soak up the atmosphere and have some fun, whilst connecting with this world-class event.
“While an event of this scale - bringing a significant economic boost - will inevitably have some impact on daily life for a short time, there is lots of information available and we urge people to plan ahead.”
