The one-off tournament will be contested between Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Hibs, taking place at the Braehead Arena, Glasgow on the 9th September. The event will feature a round robin format, with each match lasting 16 minutes across two halves.
Hosted across 15 arenas around the UK between the years of 2000-2011, Masters Football was considered the premier form of competition between footballing legends and is now making a hotly anticipated return.
A total of over 1,500 ex-pro footballers have played in The Masters series since its first competition back in 2000. This year, the tournament returns, with further footballing icons jumping at the chance to put their club’s colours on once again, playing in front of an expected crowd of up to 4,000, as well as a large streaming audience.
This year’s line-up includes ex-Rangers and Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd, Celtic legend Kris Commons, Andy Webster, who made over 200 appearances for Hearts, and many more!
Confirmed squads for The Scottish Masters Cup 2023 are:
Celtic Masters: Dorus Devries, Mark Wilson, Kelvin Wilson, Joe Ledley, Kris Commons, Simon Donnelly, Mark Burchill, Gary Hooper
Rangers Masters: Alan Hutton, Lee McCulloch, Barry Ferguson, Pedro Mendes, Kris Boyd, Kenny Miller
Hibs Masters: Alan Combe, Ian Murray, Marvin Bartley, Ivan Sproule, Dean Shiels, Colin Nish, Grant Holt, Derek Riordan
Hearts Masters: Roddy McKenzie, Pasquale Bruno, Andy Webster, Ryan Stevenson, Colin Cameron, Mehdi Taouil, Jose Quitongo, Ian Black
On the return of the highly anticipated tournament, founder and CEO of Masters Football, Steve Black said: “After seeing how successful The Masters Cup event in Glasgow went last year, we wanted to bring the tournament back for our fans, with an all-Scottish competition, featuring legends from Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Hibs. This one-off tournament in Glasgow is a great opportunity for our ex-pros to show they still have it – we are expecting it to be a lot of fun and can’t wait to see everyone there!”
