A total of £40,831.32 was raised through admissions to Silverburn’s Flamingo Beach, as well as sales from the charity’s pop-up store and generous donations from Silverburn’s guests. A top-up from the centre’s Silverburn Cares programme rounded the total up to £41,000.
Flamingo Beach, which allowed families to take a break from busy shopping trips and have some quality play time in the sand, was a huge hit, welcoming more than 20,000 visitors during its eight week-long run, including 10,928 children
Guests were also able to show their support for Glasgow’s much-loved local charity by purchasing merchandise from its pop-up store, facilitated by retail space donated by Silverburn.
A number of stores offered discounts to Flamingo Beach visitors throughout the summer. Additionally, volunteers from Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, who manned the beach and pop-up store for the duration of its run, were rewarded for their efforts with a complimentary meal donated by the centre’s Wagamama restaurant.
David Pierotti, General Manager of Silverburn said: “It’s been a busy and fun-filled summer for everyone at Silverburn as we hosted our first Flamingo Summer.
“The generosity shown by our guests has been outstanding. Through what is a difficult time for many, our guests have together raised a phenomenal amount for Glasgow’s young patients. Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed our Flamingo Summer and kindly donated.”
Funds raised at Silverburn this summer are being used to support babies, children and young adults at the Royal Hospital for Children.
William McGowan, Head of Partnerships & Business Development at Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity said: “We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited Flamingo Beach this summer. A massive thank you to Silverburn for providing this amazing experience for us.
“We are blown away with the total amount raised which will come directly to the charity, helping to fund life-changing projects and equipment at Scotland’s busiest children’s hospital.”
Flamingo Beach has been delivered as part of Silverburn’s ongoing corporate, social responsibility initiative, Silverburn Cares, which looks to engage with the local community and support charitable causes across Glasgow. In 2022, Silverburn Cares raised an impressive £56,000 for charity with ambitions to surpass this total before the end of 2023.
