We all know burger’s one true soulmate? Beer! But what happens when you combine the two and things get a little saucy? That’s exactly what Fat Hippo, the reigning kings of the burger world, and BrewDog, the successful Scottish craft brewers, planned to find out when they decided to collaborate in mouth-watering harmony to create this culinary triumph.
Not shy of pushing burger boundaries, patty perfectionists Fat Hippo, known for their quirky but legendary food combos, with the likes of their “Aperol Chickz’ spritz burger from last summer, viral trending Kelloggs’ Crunchy Nut Chicken Strips, and their infamous ‘Big Doh’ doughnut burger collab with Project D - shortlisted for Marketing Campaign of the Year, comes another exciting culinary collaboration.
Joining forces this time with leading craft brewers, BrewDog, this Spring special promises some ‘braw bevvy scran’ Scottish style, as this boozy burger brings together two industry giants to the forefront of flavour innovation.
Introducing, a Fat Hippo x BrewDog exclusive, the Glasgow Kiss. Crafted with precision and paying homage to the iconic flavours of Scotland, the birthplace of BrewDog, the special sees Fat Hippo’s signature beef patty laid alongside a square Lorne sausage smashed patty, cheese, fried haggis crumb, HP sauce, Fat Hippo sauce and pickles, served with a side of mini Cajun Tattie Waffle Squares and the crown jewel of the collection, BrewDog Black Heart Cheesy Stout Gravy. A savoury symphony consisting of caramelised onions simmered in Black Heart stout, stewed with mozzarella and served in a bespoke Fat Hippo x BrewDog can. This Scottish showstopper is set to become a firm favourite among foodies nationwide.
Showcasing BrewDog’s modern made stout, Black Heart begs you to question everything you know about stout and what you think it tastes like. Claiming ‘It’s not so black and white anymore’ the new stout on the block stands as a serious competitor, rivalling even the most iconic names out there. Offering a bold and distinctive flavour, with its rich, complex notes of roasted malt, espresso and cocoa, this smooth and creamy elixir made for the dream ingredient for Fat Hippo’s BurgerLab team.
Fat Hippo Operations Director, Michael Johnson said; “Our specials really allow our team the creative freedom in exploring the latest flavours and ingredients to find new ways to showcase the iconic Fat Hippo taste experience. With Black Heart’s rich flavour profile it naturally complimented our signature meaty flavours and helped to create a perfectly balanced burger. It’s been a pleasure working with a forward thinking brand such as BrewDog.”
Recalling their tagline ‘Toucan play that game’, two certainly seems to be the magic number with this collaboration as BrewDog’s Chief Marketing Officer, Lauren Carrol said: “We’re no stranger to exuberant burgers in our bars, but we couldn’t turn down the chance to lean on Fat Hippo’s expertise and craft our iconic Black Heart stout into a ludicrously delicious gravy.
“Working with the brilliant minds at Fat Hippo, we always knew Black Heart would
complement the burgers and it’s great that we can continue our pioneering efforts in the food and drink space together.”
Statistics show that stout is currently enjoying a moment as the fastest growing category in beer, with volume growth of 20.4% according to Scottish National Trade News, with craft beer enthusiasts seeking more bold and flavorful options, reflecting a growing demand for these robust and full-bodied brews. A natural accompaniment for the best meaty burgers!
Fat Hippo x BrewDog’s Glasgow Kiss, Cheesy Stout Gravy and Tattie Waffle Squares will be available 5th-27th March, exclusively at all 17 Fat Hippo locations for dine in as well as on Just Eat, UberEats and Deliveroo and on their in-house Click + Collect service.
