77th Glasgow Disabled Scouts and musicALL are dedicated to providing vital resources, services and advocacy for individuals facing physical and learning challenges and create a more inclusive society. Through the partnership with Buchanan Galleries, each charity will receive £1,000 to amplify their impact, drive meaningful change and improve the lives for residents in Glasgow.
The partnership is funded by Buchanan Galleries’ owner, Landsec, via its social impact programme, Landsec Futures, a £20m fund to maximise the potential of people, places, and the communities it works with and support local groups and not-for-profit organisations in the community which are already creating value in the places they know best.
musicALL is an inclusive Glasgow charity which offers high quality music opportunities for young people with physical or learning disabilities, visual impairment and neurodivergence. Via free workshops, tutoring, rehearsals and performances, musicALL aims to enrich the lives of young people through the joy of music and provide pathways to further success. By nurturing talent, enhancing skills and developing confidence, the charity aims to help participants feel valued, recognised and included – whilst break down barriers, change perspectives and tackle the exclusion young disabled people frequently experience.
77th Glasgow Disabled Scouts empowers young people aged six to 25 with physical disabilities and life-limiting conditions by offering accessible Scouting programmes tailored to their needs. Part of the UK Scout Association, the group provides engaging activities focused on increasing independence, building confidence, gaining skills for life and most importantly – having fun. A dedicated team of over 100 volunteers ensure each participant’s needs are addressed and they can get fully involved in various activities. Their mission is to guarantee the full inclusion of all young people in Scouts, recognising that specialised one-to-one support and programme adaptions is essential for achieving this goal.
Kathy Murdoch, Centre Director at Buchanan Galleries, commented: “Retail has always been at the centre of communities, with shopping destinations acting as hubs that bring local people together while creating important value for regional economies.
“As a centre, we believe in the importance of ensuring that everyone, regardless of their abilities, feels welcomed and supported. Both musicALL and 77th Glasgow Disabled Scouts bring joy and opportunities to people with disabilities, and we hope the contribution can help them continue the fantastic work they do within the local community.”
The funding provided through the Landsec Futures Community Grants Scheme reflects Buchanan Galleries’ dedication to creating a lasting and positive impact on the local community. The centre has already awarded a total of £14,400 in grants to local community groups since April 2023, helping the local area to make future-forward decisions.
The Scheme provides funding with grants between £1,000 and £3,000 to create positive change in the area. Applications are open for the Landsec Futures Community Grants scheme. To apply and for more details, visit: landsec.com/futures
