With just 4 weeks to go, it’s shaping up to be Scotland’s biggest ever run with over 30,000 runners expected to participate over the weekend – but hurry, entries are flying!
What to expect
Des and Jenny from Heart Radio will be helping to charge up the start line on Sunday 6 October as runners taking on the 10k and half marathon start their journeys in the heart of Glasgow, in George Square, before going on to tackle the infamous St Vincent Street hill as their first challenge. They will then head towards the River Clyde where the 10k and half marathon paths will split. Half marathon runners will head out towards Pollok Country Park, and return past Bellahouston Park before joining onto the 10km route and finishing at the iconic finish line in Glasgow Green for their big medal moment with banging music from finish line DJ Compact Disco Defender. Throughout their journey runners will be piped by bagpipers marking every mile; look out for none other than Clanadonia, known for their incredible kilt-wearing, drum and pipe band performances, and the legendary Rock Choir, who will be there to give runners a boost.
Known as Super Saturday, the 5 October is a celebration of everything that’s SUPER about the AJ Bell Great Scottish young runners - superhero fancy dress is highly encouraged. The Junior and Mini Great Scottish Run participants will make their way around two shorter distance running routes in the heart of Glasgow, before finishing with the ever lively and very competitive Mascot race. With plenty of high fives, big smiles, finish line sprints, and loads of enthusiasm – it’s the perfect family event!
What’s new
This year’s Après Run is going to be a party you do not want to miss out on. Make sure you celebrate your achievement in style at the finish in the brand new bar from Jim and Tonic, and then fuel up after all your hard work with a selection of fantastic local food options including: Jalapenos (an amazing range of Mexican-style food), Dough Man’s Land (delicious wood fired pizza), Lemon Squeezy (yummy flatbreads), Maclaurin’s Bar (coffee, hot drinks and snacks), and a Street Diner offering breakfast items and hot drinks. Not forgetting the great music and atmosphere in the background!
Also keep your eyes peeled for freebies being given out in the Event Village on Glasgow Green, from the amazing Great Scottish Run partners, or enjoy a post-run massage in the event village from the team in the TUI massage zone.
