Make 2nds Count, a patient and family-focused charity dedicated to giving hope through clinical trial education, knowledge sharing, support and funding research into secondary (metastatic) breast cancer, will host a one-off, unique fundraising event at Drygate Brewing Co. in Glasgow on Saturday, 02 November 2024, to mark the end of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Attendees will have the chance to participate in Massaoke - a world-touring live sing-along experience - whilst also supporting vital fundraising for Make 2nds Count.
Sally Rankine, who’s received a secondary breast cancer diagnosis and is also one of the volunteers at this event, said: “My diagnosis was a huge shock, but through Make 2nds Count, I realised I could still live a full life. Volunteering for events such as Massaoke allows me to give back to an invaluable community that has continually supported me through my journey.
“After participating in other fundraising events such as the recent Kiltwalk and attending a funded retreat, my connection to the charity grew, and I’m incredibly proud to volunteer for this event, the proceeds of which will continue to help those of us living with secondary breast cancer.”
The event will feature Rockstar Weekend, an internationally renowned band that has performed to audiences around the world and described by the judges of Britain’s Got Talent as the ‘greatest party band of all time.’ Rockstar Weekend will lead the audience through an evening of non-stop classic anthems, where audience participation will be encouraged. In addition to live music, guests will have the opportunity to bid on items in a charity auction, and a raffle will offer the chance to win prizes. The night will end in a live vote, where the audience will select the final song of the evening.
All proceeds from the event will support Make 2nds Count with its vital work, which includes funding pioneering research into secondary breast cancer, providing education and support for those affected, and increasing awareness of this incurable disease.
Make 2nds Count’s CEO, Sam Dixon, said: “Make 2nds Count relies entirely on fundraising through corporate partnerships, funders and individuals to continue their vital work with the secondary breast cancer community, and we are really looking forward to welcoming all aspiring rockstars to this incredible, one-off event in Glasgow.
The Massaoke event will support us not only with raising crucial funds but also with continuing our work and spread the word about the realities of living with SBC for both patients and their friends and families.”
Secondary breast cancer, also known as metastatic or advanced breast cancer, currently affects an estimated 61,000 men and women in the UK. Despite advancements in medical science, this form of cancer still claims the lives of 1,000 individuals each month, with an average of 31 lives lost every day.
